Good afternoon! This weekend I had some fun! First stop was O. Merveilleux for some French & Belgium treats!
Located on Second Avenue between 78th and 79th streets, this new dessert and coffee place's specialty item is the "merveilleux", a German/French cupcake which was so great! I picked the white chocolate merveilleux but they had other varieties, including coconut orange and chocolate. I loved the whole design of the place too!
The next day I went back to a new favorite of our family, Bantam Bagels which is located on Seventh Avenue and Bleecker Street. I met the owner today and learnt you should get there in the early hours as it's so popular and more varieties of their "bagel balls" are available. Later in the day, so many of their varieties are sold out. Today was my first time trying the onion bagel, it was great! I also recommend the pretzel bagel filled with plain cream cheese and the "cinnamonster", their cinnamon bagel. You might think the bagels are small but they're so tasty!! We also got instructions that you can take home a batch of the "bagels", put them on a baking sheet and heat them at 400 degrees for six minutes and they're just as great as you get them at the store!! So many places in NY have listed Bantam Bagels as the best in NY, I agree!!
Next I returned to Molly's Cupcakes which was I wrote about in "The Cupcake Tour". I took a "design your own mini" to go since I was going out for lunch. I ate at Numero 28 which is right around the corner from Molly's Cupcakes on Carmine street!
Finally my last stop was the MakerBot store on Mullbery Street between East Houston and Bleecker Streets. MakerBot is a new generation of 3D printing. You can make models, bracelets, coasters and so much more that come out of their 3D printer that you can take home. These were some things I selected or made at MakerBot:
I learnt how to use the MakerBots and how they use PLA. (PLA is corn plastic). They have classes that change monthly where they focus on making a particular project. Right now, they have classes on basketball coasters. I definitely want to return to MakerBot for a class! The classes are available to all ages. I also learnt that the Makerware software, the 3D printer and the MakerBot all work together to make a file, (let's say a robot) which turns 3D! Make sure you also stop by the gumball machine before you leave to take home your own figure made from a MakerBot!

DeleteHi Vani, we love your blog and get so many great tips from you. Thanks for posting and keep up all of your great work !#foodbabearmy Great post Andrew, looks like you had a great time with Dad too! Love, Mommy
ReplyDeleteSuper cool! This reminds me of Shapeways 3D printing exhibit at the Museum of Arts and Design. I love the 3D figure I just got made of sandstone. Technology so amazing. I want to check out MakerBots classes as sounds interesting especially after you mentioned they have sessions and you can learn to make so many different things incorporating printers. Thanks for this! Also, love the photos - and want to see close up the cupcake from the bakery. Sounds like a fun afternoon! Kathy
ReplyDeleteThanks! A lot of the stuff is the same. However, I liked Markerbot better!
