Cool is the New Hot 🍥

Hi readers,
Today my family, me and some favorite friends Kim and Jillian all went to Cool Mess! It's a new make-your-own ice cream shop located on Lexington Avenue between 62nd and 63rd Streets.
The ice cream shop also owns a longtime restaurant downstairs called Burger Heaven which serves burgers, shakes, and fries. Burger Heaven has been around for 70 years!! Their menu items are also available at Cool Mess!  If you're having a birthday party here, pizza is also available as a lunch choice.
Marguerite Louas, the mother of the current generation of the Burger Heaven, wanted to make a fun ice cream parlor for her three kids. She was inspired by wanting somewhere great that her kids could go to! She decided to turn the upstairs portion of Burger Heaven into Cool Mess, a new make your own ice cream place.
When my family and friends first walked in we spotted their neon sign reading "Cool Is The new Hot." They have signs showing CoolMess's slogans for photos.

We were seated by the windows at a booth with tables and given menus that listed delicious options for ice cream and toppings. Their ice cream is our favorite, organically made in Brooklyn, Blue Marble!! They also have gelato sourced form il laboratorio del gelatin, sundaes, and pre-made ice cream for those wanting a quick fix.
They also have a candy bar!
Besides the make-your-own ice cream, I also really loved that they sourced from artisinal spots aross the city including the Konery (featured on Restaurant Startup),  the previously mentioned Blue Marble, dō, and Sweet Sams.

Our super helpful hostess got us started on the make-your-own ice cream process. Cool Mess suggested ice cream mixes, "messipes" including "Birthday Cake" which includes a Blue Marble base, sprinkles, whipped cream, and Sweet Sam's pound cake.

My brother Tyler and I decided to have that. Since whipped cream and sprinkles are not included in the three free toppings rule, we decided to also get carmel corn and chocolate sauce on the side. I also tried a birthday cake waffle cup by the Konery. It was fantastic! The hostess taught us how to use the CoolMess blenders. First she brought in mixers and had us pour in the ice cream we selected.
Then while the ice cream was blending, we put in our chosen topings. My sister and her friend made their own creation in a different machine.

After enough time blending the toppings, it becomes delicious ice cream! You get to eat as much as you want, they'll even let you take your ice cream creation home!
Both the ice cream and the bowl was so delicious we finished it all at the restaurant. It might have ranked tied for our number #1 ice cream ever in NY with another favorite Ample Hills (which also has make your own ice cream parties.)

We will definitely return soon!
