Hi again readers! With New York's ever- changing landscape, there are only a few places still here now that have been part of New York history. Tavern On The Green is one of them. Located on 67th Street in Central Park, this place is now modern with some "old bones" from the last renovation of the 1970's-2009.
Today, we went looking to see if their new to-go window was open to get ice cream. When we saw it wasn't, we decided to sit down outside for what was their first outdoor brunch! It was a beautiful sunny day and I loved the look they created outside! They kept the outside seating.
The music was old-school and all Sinatra, I really enjoyed relaxing to a music of another generation and my Mom loved that they kept something old with the new look. The idea of fancy food is still here! However, unlike competitors with tasteless fancy food in my area, my order of the brownie sundae was great!!
I also ordered sparkling water (my favorite beverage) and it was served in a beautiful glass Tavern on the Green bottle. I purchased one of the bottles after we finished our meal in their new gift shop.

My waitress Liz was very kind! She told us the first day outside has been hectic but she still had a great attitude! She let us order off the brunch menu even though they were preparing for dinner service inside. Something else they kept is the gift shop. It's in a new location now in what was formerly the ladies restroom! Inside the restaurant, is all new except for these beams (pictured below). The new look is minimalist while Mom tells me it used to be very over-the top and ornate. No more colorful chandeliers in the crystal room. It's now called the Central Park room which is my favorite!
I'm looking forward to returning for a full meal. They did a great job combining the old and new. Bye for now, Andrew
PS. I love that sheep replaced reindeer in the new logo! It reflects the history of the restaurant's space as it was it was originally the sheepfold that housed the sheep that grazed Sheep's Meadow in 1870 through the early 1930's.

Andrew, I loved being with you today at such a special place that is filled with so many wonderful memories for me! While I do wish they preserved more of the inside of the restaurant, we both agree that the outside space is a new favorite NYC spot for both of us! Looking forward to having many celebrations there for you! So happy you wanted to walk by there today. Great post.
